What We Believe

What We Believe

Our Mission…

Touching our neighbors and the nations with the gospel of Jesus Christ in order to present every
man complete in Christ.

Our Vision…

At First Baptist Church we are passionate about introducing men, women, and children to the
Lord Jesus Christ.  We are motivated to do that because we know that our God is worthy of our worship, has commanded us to love others, has called us into His service, and instructed us to invite others to Himself.  You see, Jesus never saw church as a place to go, but as people who love Him and who are learning to love others.  Regardless of your past or spiritual background, we welcome you to join us on this journey as we do something great for God.

Our Beliefs…

About the Bible

The Bible is God’s Word given to man.  Human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit, wrote it.  It is the supreme source of truth without any mixture of error and as such, it is man's authority.

About God

God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe, who has eternally existed in three personalities: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The three Persons of the Trinity are co-equal and are one God.

About Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with God the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying and shedding His blood on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He is now in Heaven’s glory and will return someday to earth to reign as King.

About Man

People are made in the image of God, to be like Him in character.  People are the supreme object of God’s creation.  Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called “sin.”  This attitude has separated all people from God and causes many problems in our lives.

About Salvation
Salvation is God’s free gift to us, but we must accept it.  We can never make up for our sins by self-improvement or good works.  Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can anyone be spared from sin’s penalty.  This takes place when a person surrenders control of their life and places their faith in Jesus Christ.

About the Church

We believe that…
The church consists of born-again believers in Jesus Christ who have followed the Lord in believers baptism.
The church should strive to be authentic and genuine in every aspect and endeavor.
In order to fulfill God’s purposes, the church must operate as a unified community of servants.
God uniquely gifts and empowers each believer for specific places of service.
Love, for God and people, should be the primary motivation for all our actions.
All people matter to God and therefore, should matter to the church.
The church should strive to be relevant to our culture and community without compromising the life-changing message of Jesus Christ.

About Eternity

People were created by God to exist forever.  Therefore, we will either exist eternally separate from God by sin or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation.  To be eternally separated from God is Hell.  To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence.

About Satan
A real personality, who is the open and declared enemy of God and man.

About Creation
We believe the Genesis account of creation, and that what you believe about your origin will determine your philosophy of life.  Creation was a direct act of God, literal 24 hour days, instantaneous, and miraculous.  Man was created in the image of God and all reproduction was “after their kind.” Download the SBC Statement of Faith.

Our Core Values…

Purpose

Because it guides and protects our vision.  There are a lot of “good” things to be involved in, but not all of them are “best”.  We want to be driven by true purpose, not by programs or structure.

Excellence

Because it represents God and attracts people.  Most people want everything they invest in to be good quality.  Why not the church?  The church is God’s idea and plan and we bring glory to Him in everything we do and everything we are.

Celebration

Because every victory is important.  No matter how bad or how busy life gets, we need to consistently celebrate the victories that come our way.  And we want to always be grateful, yet never be satisfied with where we are.

Relevance

Because God became relevant to man.  Although He was God, Jesus became a man – so that man could know, understand, and receive God’s message.  We must take the message to the people around us in a way that they will know, understand, and receive it.

Truth

Because what God says never changes.  In a life full of instability and a need for security, it is good to know that we can have confidence in what our Creator has said to us through the Bible.

Empowerment

Because everyone needs to be involved.  Our mission is meant to be accomplished together and you are created to be an important part.  God has created every person unique and equally valuable.  There is only one of you and only one life to live.  We want to help you accomplish your full potential.

Restoration

Because with God, there is always Hope.  Regardless of what you have done or where you are in your journey, God loves you and desires to restore you to Himself – we are committed to do the same.

Flexibility

Because in life we always have to make room for change.
